The Richard Mille RM68-01 Graffiti Tourbillon is a remarkable timepiece that blends mechanical precision with artistic expression. It is the result of a unique collaboration with Brazilian graffiti artist Cyril Kongo, who has transformed the movement’s bridges into vibrant canvases, mimicking the energetic strokes of street art.
Enhancing its artistic allure, the watch features an upgraded zirconium oxide ceramic front and back, paired with a carbon fiber middle case and crown. The thin case profile, measuring just 14 mm, complements the innovative design.
The RM68-01 is housed within a slightly distorted tonneau-shaped case made from grade 5 titanium, enhanced by an NTPT carbon fiber band and a black ceramic bezel. The design showcases arrow-shaped hands with a natural arc, while the tourbillon is prominently displayed at the 6 o’clock position on the dial.
Cyril Kongo dedicated over a year to perfecting his graffiti techniques on the fine watch components, using a specialized airbrush to apply tiny droplets of paint. This method ensures the weight of the paint doesn’t disrupt the movement’s balance or operation. The special pigments adhere seamlessly to the titanium surfaces, maintaining their vibrant hue indefinitely, regardless of assembly or movement.
Within this masterpiece lies the RM tourbillon movement, oscillating at 28,800 vph with a power reserve of 48 hours. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the movement’s base plate adorned with bright graffiti patterns that radiate from the center, simulating the captivating effect of paint splattering onto a wall.
