The esteemed watchmaker Richard Mille has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the RM 65-01 McLaren W1, a creation that artfully marries the world of luxury timepieces with the high-octane universe of supercars. Designed in collaboration with the British automotive giant McLaren, this timepiece draws inspiration from the cutting-edge McLaren W1 supercar, epitomizing speed and precision in every detail.
The RM 65-01 features an innovative bezel that combines Carbon TPT® and grade 5 titanium, showcasing a striking visual interplay of materials. The vivid racing colors of orange, yellow, and blue are seamlessly integrated, adding a vibrant touch that echoes the dynamic essence of motorsports.
At the heart of the RM 65-01 lies the RMAC4 automatic movement, boasting a remarkable 60-hour power reserve and a chronographic precision reaching 1/10th of a second. This sophisticated movement is supported by a baseplate and bridges crafted from grade 5 titanium, ensuring both durability and performance.
The watch’s tonneau-shaped case is a tribute to the flowing lines of the McLaren W1, featuring an ‘inverted-convex’ profile that manifests in the distinctive ‘double-layered’ bezel design. This structure sees the upper layer forged from Carbon TPT®, each case bearing a unique texture, while the lower layer is polished grade 5 titanium, measuring a mere 0.5mm at its thinnest.
The dial, inspired by the wheel designs of the W1 supercar, is skeletonized and enhanced by colorful elements reminiscent of a racer’s dashboard. The hour, minute, and small second hands at 6 o’clock are adorned in yellow, while the 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters sport a vibrant orange. The chronographic second scale ring is highlighted in blue, adding to the overall dynamic feel. The vertical date window is strategically positioned at 11 o’clock on the dial.
Completing the look, the RM 65-01 offers a choice of black or orange rubber straps, each featuring streamlined patterns inspired by the aerodynamic vents on the W1’s hood.
