Richard Mille has once again pushed the boundaries of watchmaking by collaborating with the renowned tennis player Rafael Nadal, unveiling the RM 27-05 Flying Tourbillon Rafael Nadal. This timepiece is celebrated for its super lightweight and offers an extraordinary resistance to shocks up to 14,000g. Weighing only 38 grams including the strap, and with a case thickness of just 9 mm, it is the lightest and most robust tourbillon watch ever created.
The RM 27-05 has taken five years to develop and features an innovative carbon fiber composite material known as ‘Carbon TPT® B.4’. This advanced material has increased density by 4%, fiber hardness by 15%, and resin strength by 30% compared to conventional Carbon TPT®. Its structure is optimized with anisotropy to ensure both lightweight and exceptional durability, providing unprecedented shock resistance in the series.
This remarkable watch replaces traditional sapphire crystal with PMMA ultra-light polymer, making it lighter while enhancing transparency and anti-glare performance. The fully open skeleton dial showcases unique geometric mechanical aesthetics fueled by the V-shaped bridge and tourbillon frame. An eye-catching visual impact is achieved, with the skeletonized barrel directly displaying winding status, and gear trains at 2 o’clock and 8 o’clock creating an exquisite interconnection.
