The new 2024 IWC Portuguese 7-Day series is now open for pre-orders, my watch-loving friends! This elegant timepiece is known for its large dial and signature Arabic numeral hour markers, coupled with leaf-shaped hands that remain an unmissable part of the Portuguese line’s DNA. Trust me, the latest edition of the Portuguese couldn’t have brought any more joy to my horology-loving heart!
Let’s dive into the details, shall we? First up, the case. Despite maintaining its classic diameter of 42.4mm, the thickness has been impressively reduced from 14.1mm to just 13mm. In the world of dress watches, 13mm is the golden standard for evaluating comfort and thickness. This makes the new Portuguese 7-Day watch more refined and finally spares it from being humorously compared to a dive watch in terms of heft.
Next on the list is the glass. For a slimmer profile, IWC has crafted a dome-shaped sapphire surface, providing more room for the hands to glide gracefully while enhancing the watch’s aesthetic appeal. Not skimping on quality, the case back also features the same dome-shaped sapphire glass, allowing a crystal-clear view of the intricate mechanics inside.
The dial has undergone some noteworthy changes too. The new design has done away with the track-style scale on the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. Additionally, the power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock has opted out of using a red mark for the ‘1’ zone. These artful adjustments lend the watch an elegant simplicity, prioritizing the overall unity of the dial.
IWC’s latest release is more than just a watch; it’s a statement piece, designed to be nothing short of exceptional!
